Here at POSmusic, we’ve always been fans of both “the Biebs” and retrotastic technology, so it was exciting moment when we discovered YouTuber TRONICBOX‘s “VHS” versions of the pop-superstar’s smash singles from the album Purpose.
Re-imagining Justin’s “What Do You Mean” into “another modern 80’s classic”, TRONICBOX baths the original vocal in electronic pads taken straight from your favourite childhood sitcom, complete with reverb heavy drum machine hits and (of course) an epic saxophone solo, with visual accompaniment courtesy of a redressed Bieber sporting a very John Stamos-eque mullet.
And sounding very much like the sort of lost, private press 1980’s vinyl that record collectors spend thousands of dollars on e-bay for, we’re equally impressed with retro Justin Beiber “Love Yourself”, below.
Taking aside the obvious aesthetic differences between the remakes and the originals, it’s a warm reminder that maybe pop music hasn’t changed too much in the last 30 years… and that a good song is still a good song.
