Licking donuts isn’t the most outrageous way to create a headline, but with the hashtag #DonutGate going viral last year, Dangerous Woman Ariana Grande cost herself a prestigious gig performing for United States president Barack Obama at the White House.
As reported in the Guardian, the former Nickelodeon child-star found herself caught up in the recent Democratic National Committee leaks, with a September 2015 e-mail from DNC financial chair Zachary Allen vetoing Grande’s performance after celebrity gossip site TMZ published a video of Grande and her backup dancers celebrating the American Declaration of Independence. Taken on the 4th of July, Grande was shown licking two donuts on a display tray in a California shop, before proclaiming “I hate Americans. I hate America.” when offered a fresh tray.
In one of the better justifications for the stars-behaving-badly file, Grande blamed her outburst on overweight children, saying: “The fact that the United States has one of the highest child obesity rates in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies”.
If only more American children showed the same restraint as Ms. Grande and limited their donut intake in the same fashion…
