Baltimore electronic experimentalists Animal Collective are no stranger to immersing their audience in visual art and music, having previously collaborated with artist Danny Perez for New York’s Guggenheim Museum 50th anniversary.
And now, they’ve chosen you as their next visual collaborator.
In anticipation for their forthcoming new album Painting With, Animal Collective today launched a free app that rewards the user’s finger-painting dexterity with a preview of their latest single Lying In The Grass, which for now, is the only way to hear their latest single.
As well as rewarding their fans with the single preview, Animal Collective are encouraging them to share their work on Instagram, using the #PaintingWith hashtag, with submissions appearing in real-time on the Animal Collective website.
The app also includes a strobe light effect which can be used with the (obligatory) Deluxe Edition of the LP release, which includes a “Zeotropic Turntable Slipmat” (which unlocks animations inside of the app…)
Animal Collective’s “Painting With” is released to the wild on February 19th On Domino Records.
